Where do you find yourself in today's economic uncertainty?

The slowing job growth, persistent inflation, rising costs, and political turbulence have many wondering if there is any point in pursuing more for their careers, businesses. . .

Dreams...

As a marketing expert, I've let a few of those doubts creep in myself. I won't pretend (despite my avid optimism) that there isn't a trim level of worry about what's to come. Tough decisions have to be made — decisions that will impact us beyond the moment.

(Here's comes the optimism) But, I believe that within all this uncertainty lie new opportunities for greatness, both within us and in our businesses.

But we must resist the very real urge to settle into survival mode.

It's time to renew our expectations so that we can be positioned to thrive.

4 Ways to Position Yourself Today to Win

Know (That You Know, That You Know) What You Bring To The Table

If you've noticed a need in the market that's not being filled...

If you're feeling led to zero in on one special talent...

If you're ready to branch out into something uncharted...

If you need to reinvent or reimagine yourself or your brand in any way, now's the time.

It's time to be as sure as possible about how your gifts, talents, passions, and offerings work together. By leveraging them, you build the trustworthiness, authority, and consistency that we all value ($$$) right now.

Really nail down your personal brand or business branding. I am always here to help!

Build Relationships, Network, and Ask for Help

Uncertainty is not the time to go it alone. Relationships create stability in unstable times. Reach out to peers, mentors, industry groups, and potential collaborators. Be generous with support, and humble enough to ask for it.

Networking builds resilience by creating opportunities, fresh perspectives, and safety nets. In fact, many businesses grow the most during difficult seasons because of partnerships and collaborations formed in the storm.

I can admit this is an area in which I need help, myself. Attending events and LinkedIn DMs are where I plan to amp up my efforts. How about you?

Define Your Next Steps: Set YOUR Strategy For Navigating Uncertainty

"Thriving" looks different for everyone right now, but what about you? Knowing what you are working toward is essential, and learning how you will get there is what brings precision and confidence to your journey.

Don't let the idea of planning and strategizing overwhelm you, as it does most people. Here is a simple way to program your goals:

Ask yourself:

  1. What do I want to accomplish?

  2. WHEN do I wish to achieve this?

  3. What things need to happen beforehand?

Repeat this series of questions for each of the "things" you identify in question No. 3, until you have your most immediate action item. Then, you can define what tools, timelines, and milestones will guide your progress.

Stay Flexible and Expect New Opportunities

Flexibility is key. Plans may shift. Your goals may take a hit, but ALWAYS look for the silver lining! New opportunities have a way of showing up in unexpected circumstances — for outcomes that could even exceed your original vision.

Sometimes the detour becomes the breakthrough, but you have to stop bracing for impact. Expect the unexpected, and remain ready to step into opportunities that align with your mission, trusting that you'll always end up exactly where you're supposed to be.

You CAN Thrive in This Season

Uncertainty doesn’t demand fear or failure, but it will undoubtedly open the door for wisdom, resilience, and vision. By grounding yourself in your unique strengths, building meaningful relationships, defining your strategy, and staying flexible, you can embrace the favor attached to you and take hold of exciting new opportunities to flourish.

Let this be your official redirect: you, your career, your business, your lifestyle — it can all thrive in this (and any) season. Anchor yourself in your identity and what you uniquely offer, nurture your network, move forward with strategy, and welcome the shifts that uncertainty brings.
